A Prayer for God’s Blessing, Presence, and Protection
Some of the most powerful prayers in Scripture are also among the shortest. Jabez’s prayer contains only a few words, yet it reveals a heart that fully depended upon God.
Rather than accepting limitations or relying on his own strength, Jabez called upon the Lord and asked for God’s blessing, guidance, protection, and presence. His prayer serves as a reminder that God hears sincere requests from those who seek Him.
Most importantly, the verse concludes with a powerful statement:
“And God granted him that which he requested.”
Jabez’s Prayer to the Lord

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Reflection
Jabez’s prayer contains four simple requests.
First, he asked God to bless him. He understood that every good thing ultimately comes from the Lord.
Second, he asked God to enlarge his coast. While this may refer to territory or influence, it also reminds believers to trust God for opportunities that advance His purpose and will.
Third, Jabez asked for God’s hand to be with him. More than blessings, he desired God’s presence and guidance in his life.
Finally, he asked God to keep him from evil. Jabez recognized the importance of spiritual protection and dependence upon God.
This prayer is not merely about receiving more. It is about recognizing that every blessing, opportunity, and victory comes from the Lord. True success is found when God’s hand remains upon our lives.
Closing Encouragement
God is not limited by your circumstances, your past, or the expectations others may place upon your life.
Like Jabez, bring your requests before the Lord. Ask Him for wisdom, guidance, protection, and opportunities to serve Him more effectively. Trust that His plans are greater than anything you could accomplish on your own.
Seek His presence above all else, and allow Him to direct every step you take.
