Trusting God When You Have Been Wronged
There are times in life when we experience unfair treatment, false accusations, betrayal, persecution, or situations that seem completely unjust. During those moments, it can be tempting to seek revenge, harbor bitterness, or take matters into our own hands.
Psalm 7 reminds us of a better path.
In this prayer, David brings his case before the Lord and places his trust in God’s perfect judgment. Rather than seeking personal vengeance, David appeals to the righteous Judge who sees every heart, knows every motive, and administers true justice.
If you are facing injustice, opposition, or false accusations, this prayer serves as a powerful reminder that God is still on the throne and His judgment is always right.
David’s Plea for Justice
Psalms 7:1-17 (KJV) (Plea For Justice)
O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me: 2. Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. 3. O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands; 4. If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:) 5. Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.
Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded. 7. So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high. 8. The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.
Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. 10. My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. 11. God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. 12. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. 13. He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.
Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. 15. He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. 16. His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate. 17. I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
Reflection
One of the most important lessons found in Psalm 7 is that David first examined his own heart.
Before asking God to judge others, he invited God to judge him.
“O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands…”
This demonstrates humility and integrity. David was willing to stand before God honestly and allow the Lord to search his heart.
The prayer also reminds us that justice belongs to God.
Many times we want immediate answers and immediate consequences for wrongdoing. Yet God’s justice operates according to His perfect wisdom and timing.
David understood that God sees what others cannot see.
“The righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.”
While people often judge by appearances, God examines the heart.
The psalm concludes not with bitterness, but with praise.
“I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.”
Even while waiting for justice, David chose to worship.
Closing Encouragement
If you have been hurt, falsely accused, mistreated, or wronged, bring your burden before the Lord.
Trust God to defend what is right. Trust Him to reveal truth. Trust Him to work according to His perfect wisdom and timing.
You may not see justice immediately, but God sees every detail and misses nothing.
Place your confidence in the righteous Judge and allow Him to handle what you cannot.
