A Life Changing Prayer

Put Your Word in My Heart, So I Always Have It With Me

Following Christ is more than changing habits or adopting new beliefs. It is a complete transformation of the heart, mind, and soul.

This prayer is a request for God’s guidance, wisdom, righteousness, and presence. It acknowledges our dependence upon Him and asks the Lord to shape our lives according to His will.

If your desire is to grow closer to God, understand His ways, and walk in obedience, this prayer can serve as a daily reminder that true life is found in Him alone.

A Life-Changing Prayer

In the name of Jesus, I come before You, Father.

I ask for forgiveness and mercy, Lord.

Please teach me how to live.

I ask that the Holy Ghost possess me and devour me with Your righteousness. I pray to be committed to Your obedience.

My ways are not Your ways, and my thoughts are not Your thoughts. Teach me Your ways and help me have Your mindset so I may live.

Teach me Your wisdom.

Put Your Word in my heart, so I always have it with me.

Without You, Lord, I cannot live. With You, Lord, I can do anything.

I can never thank You enough, Lord, for sending Your only Son to die for my sins.

You, Father, I worship now and forevermore.

May my lips constantly praise You and all Your marvelous works.

Keep my feet from evil. Lead me along Your righteous path and keep sin far from me.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Reflection

One of the most powerful requests a person can make is:

“Teach me how to live.”

Many people ask God to change their circumstances. This prayer asks God to change the person praying.

It is a prayer of surrender.

The prayer acknowledges that God’s ways are higher than our ways and that His wisdom far exceeds our own understanding. Rather than relying upon human knowledge, it seeks God’s truth, God’s righteousness, and God’s guidance.

Perhaps the most memorable line is:

“Put Your Word in my heart, so I always have it with me.”

When God’s Word becomes part of our hearts, it guides our decisions, strengthens our faith, corrects our course, and draws us closer to Him.

Life begins to change when Scripture moves beyond the pages of a Bible and becomes part of who we are.

Closing Encouragement

God is not interested in merely improving your life. He desires to transform it.

Ask Him to teach you His ways. Ask Him to place His Word within your heart. Ask Him to guide your thoughts, direct your steps, and strengthen your faith.

As you grow closer to Him, you will discover that true life is found not in following your own path, but in following His.
