Train yourself to speak truth with boldness, wisdom, and boundaries—no matter who’s asking.
“Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.”
— Proverbs 12:22 (KJV)
Tell the truth—no matter what. We should never allow our honesty to be compromised in any situation. No amount of fear or uncertainty should dictate whether or not we speak truthfully.
There will be times when certain questions or moments make us feel like we can’t be completely honest. But these are precisely the moments when we must exercise authority over our words. If someone asks something personal, you have the right to say, “That’s none of your business.”
Too often in conversation, we respond too quickly. Instead of focusing only on the question, we should pause and ask ourselves: Does this person even have the right to ask? Wisdom protects truth.
We also have the right to say, “I’m not going to talk about that.” Silence is a valid answer. Just because others are eager to discuss something doesn’t mean we are obligated to participate.
We have the option to remain silent. And when in doubt, let this truth guide you: To say nothing is better than to tell a lie.
Reflective Questions:
When was the last time you felt pressured to say something that didn’t align with truth?
How do you typically respond when someone asks a personal question you’re not ready to answer?
What boundaries can you set to better guard your honesty?
In what ways can silence be a powerful and truthful response?
Prayer:
In the name of Jesus, I come before You, Father, I ask that You help me keep honesty on my lips. Let me speak in a way that represents You—with boldness, clarity, and grace. Teach me when to speak and when to stay silent. May my words reflect Your truth and never be compromised by fear or pressure.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
