A Mind Set Above: Escaping the Grip of Hell – Steps Towards Eternity Daily Devotional

Fix Your Eyes on Heaven — And Walk in Victory

The way of life is above the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

-Proverbs 15:24 (KJV)

A wise person will stay focused on the things above, as scripture instructs us to.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

-Colossians 3:2 (KJV)

When we stay focused on the things of the Lord, our hearts, minds, and souls will always be in his perfect peace. All of hell may come against us, but we will never be subdued by it. The Bible tells us that hell and destruction are never full and the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Proverbs 27:20- KJV)

The children of God have eyes for the Lord and look to him for fulfillment in all that they do. We may have concerns and face problems that we may look at and begin to worry over. However, our thoughts will go right back to the Lord, and just as those before us who had victory, so will we become if our minds stay on the Lord.

When David faced Goliath, his mind was on the Lord.

When Moses led the God’s people out of Egypt, his mind was focused on God.

When they threw Daniel into the lions den, his mind was on the Lord.

In the book of Acts chapter Nine verse ten through seventeen, we can read where the disciple Ananias goes to lay his hands on Saul. When the Lord told him to go lay hands on him, he was reluctant and began to tell God how bad Saul was. God said to him, “This man is my chosen instrument. Now go lay hands on him as I instructed you to.”

Ananias did as the Lord instructed because his mind was on the things of the Lord. When God said, “Do it,” his reluctance was no more.

Much like in our lives today, we will have things come with a challenge, but when God says the time is now, we must act without hesitation. The enemy will try to blind us with fear and uncertainty, but our minds will stay on our Lord. Our victory has been given to us by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is our mindset, and hell has no victory over us. By the name of Jesus, we have a Christ-like mind and have departed from all the works of evil.

Reflective Questions

How can I stay more focused on the things of God in everyday life situations?

Do you have times that you were so focused on God that you never noticed the problem?

When God tells you to do something, do you act on it quickly enough?

Prayer

In the name of Jesus, I come before you, Lord, and I ask for the Holy Spirit to guide my heart, soul, and to stay focused on you and your ways. Renew my mind to a Christ-like mind. I trust in everything heavenly Father in Jesus’ name. Amen.
