Trusting God in the Face of Fear – Steps Towards Eternity Daily Devotional

Overcoming Fear Through Faith: Trusting God in Uncertain Times

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
-Psalm 56:3 (KJV)

Putting our trust in God means being like-minded with Jesus. The world was against Jesus, yet He stayed on the path, doing what He was meant to do. He remained committed to His purpose. Though He was in the world, He was not consumed by its fears.

When David faced Goliath, do you think he was afraid?

Whether he was afraid or not, it did not change the outcome. When all was said and done, Goliath’s head was cut off by his own sword at the hand of David.

As the Scripture says, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”

David may have been afraid, but he trusted God no matter what. His trust in God was greater than his fear of facing Goliath. Or perhaps David wasn’t afraid at all—because his faith in God had removed his fear.

Whether we feel fear or not when facing a Goliath moment in our lives, the main point is trusting God at all times. When we put our trust in Him, He consumes all our fears. Even when we feel uncertain and afraid, He remains faithful and true to His Word, still removing our fear.

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
-1 John 4:18 (KJV)

God wants to remove fear from our lives permanently, and He will. His love is being perfected in us daily, which drives out fear. Sometimes this happens gradually, and other times immediately—God has the power to do it either way. He always does what is best for us. We may not always understand why He allows us to go through certain things, and at times, we bring difficulties upon ourselves. But no matter what, He is always there, working things out for our good.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28 – KJV

The world presents many fears—financial struggles, health concerns, family issues, and the pressure of not measuring up to others. It seems like there is a new fear every day. But Jesus said:

    “Be not afraid, only believe.”
    – Mark 5:36 (KJV)

Believe in God, who is greater than any fear.

    Reflective Questions

      1.    What fears do I struggle with the most, and how have I been handling them?
        2.    In what ways do I allow the world’s fears and pressures to influence my thoughts and actions?
        3.    Is there an area of my life where I need to surrender fear and trust God completely?

    Prayer:

In the name of Jesus, I come before You and ask that the Holy Spirit intervene, showing me how to put more trust in You, Lord. I believe in You, and You know the areas of my uncertainty, and I turn it all over to You, who knows no fear. In JESUS’ name I pray, amen.

Thank you for reading. God bless you!

You’re unstoppable, just as David was when facing Goliath.
