Sowing in Righteousness – Steps Towards Eternity Daily Devotional

Both sin and righteousness require maintenance. It’s up to you which one you spend your time cultivating.

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.”
— Hosea 10:12 (KJV)

The word sow has three key definitions:
    1.    To plant seeds.
    2.    To be thickly covered with.
    3.    To cause to appear or spread.

What a beautiful way to put things into perspective! The words the Lord chooses are full of wisdom and purpose.

When you sow seeds of righteousness, you will soon be covered in righteousness, and it will spread into the lives of others. This is what happens when we dedicate each day that God has given us to pursuing righteousness.

Both sin and righteousness require maintenance. It’s up to you which one you spend your time cultivating. The Holy Spirit is always present to guide you, but you must make the choice to follow Him. There will also be moments when He steps back to see what you do on your own. Every decision matters. Each time you choose the righteous path, you are sowing righteousness and will reap the reward in due season.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been on unproductive and unholy ground. When you ask in Jesus’ name for change and genuinely seek after God, you will reap mercy, and He will rain righteousness upon you. That once barren land will overflow with the fruit of righteousness, transforming your life and the lives of those around you.

Reflective Questions:

•    What kind of seeds am I sowing in my daily life?
    •    Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me, or am I following my own ways?
    •    How can I be more intentional about pursuing righteousness today?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to sow seeds of righteousness in my life. Guide my heart, my thoughts, and my actions so that I may walk in Your ways. Let my life be a reflection of Your goodness, and may Your righteousness overflow in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remember: Doing what is right comes without worries.
