Leaving behind the past and training your mind for a victorious life in Christ.
“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.”
— Ephesians 4:22 (KJV)
As believers, we are called to leave behind the conversations and ways of our old life. Our new life in Christ should be our focus—not the past we were rescued from.
Before I knew Christ, my life was filled with foolishness, destruction, and spiritual blindness. Looking back, there is nothing beneficial in those years—except for one thing: God was constantly reaching out to me, even when I failed to see it. Despite my stubbornness and sin, He never gave up on me.
I would also like to share a practice that the Holy Spirit taught me when I first came to Christ. He made it clear that there should be no place in my mind for ungodly thoughts or memories. To help guard my heart and renew my mind, I began repeating this simple but powerful declaration:
“There are no ungodly thoughts and no ungodly memories.”
I may say this a hundred times a day, and it has been a major victory in putting off the old man. This practice not only keeps my mind focused on Christ but also prepares me for eternity, where there will be no sinful thoughts or memories—only the pure joy of being in the presence of our Lord.
Reflection Questions:
• Are there conversations or thought patterns from your past that you need to let go of?
• How can you shift your focus more toward Christ and His calling for your life?
• In what ways has God shown His patience and grace in drawing you to Him?
• How can you train your mind to focus on godly thoughts and prepare for eternity with Him?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for never giving up on me. Help me to put off my old ways and focus on the NEW LIFE you have given me in Christ. Guard my thoughts, my words, and my heart so that they reflect Your righteousness. Teach me to train my mind in holiness, preparing for the day when I will stand before You in purity. May my conversations glorify You and point others to the hope found in Jesus. In His name, Amen.
Thank you for reading. God bless you!
