Following Jesus All the Way Home – Steps Towards Eternity Daily Devotional

Discover what it truly means to follow Jesus daily, walk in His footsteps, and prepare for our eternal home with Him.

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

-1 Peter 2:21 (KJV)

Each new day is a blessing, and we must take the opportunity to represent Christ in everything we do. Our number one goal in the world should be to follow in his footsteps. No matter what our day brings or how tired we may get, we must strive to be like Jesus no matter what.

The old familiar question should remain in our hearts.

What would Jesus do?

How does the question reflect on our daily activities?

When we speak, do our conversations throughout the day reflect Jesus?

When we think, do our thoughts throughout the day reflect the same way Christ would?

Do we act like Christ?

What would Jesus say?

What would Jesus think?

Living or life for Christ requires us to be like him in every sense of the way. We should stay true to his ways.

Jesus didn’t lie.

Jesus didn’t cheat.

Jesus didn’t steal.

Jesus did not talk badly about others behind their backs. He would tell them the truth even if it stung a bit.

Jesus loved.

Jesus cared.

Jesus comforted.

Jesus put others before himself to the point that he was willing to die and did die for you, me, and the person you love the most, as well as the person you hate/dislike the most. He died for the doctor, the lawyer, the factory worker, the student, the judge, the prisoner, and the homeless man on the street corner. No one was beneath His love, and no one was beyond His sacrifice.

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

-Hebrews 9:28 – KJV

He gave His life so we could have life beyond what we could imagine.

Eternal life isn’t a fantasy. It is a reality; following Jesus is the only way to eternal life. The world we live in today is not our permanent home. As God said, he would create a new heaven and a new earth.

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Isaiah 65:17 – KJV

The above scripture is God telling us that all his children will have a new place to live without sin and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Revelation 21:4 – KJV

One day, God’s children will enter an everlasting kingdom, a new home with Jesus Christ. The only way to enter the Kingdom is by following Jesus all the way home.

Reflective Questions:

How can I make more of an effort to follow Jesus?

When was the last time I shared Jesus with someone?

Prayer:

In the name of Jesu, I come before you, Heavenly Father, and I ask that the Holy Spirit keep me following in your Sons. I. want to be like him in all that I do.

When I speak, I want to represent him,

When I think I want to represent him,

I want my daily actions to represent him to the fullest. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
