Delivered from Deception – Steps Towards Eternity Daily Devotional

The Power of Words and the Path to Deliverance

An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
Proverbs 11:9 (KJV)

A hypocrite says one thing but does the exact opposite behind closed doors. They present a kind face while using a wicked tongue to tear others down. What they don’t realize is that the same evil spirit driving them to gossip and slander also makes them cowards.

If the person they slander responds in kind, it creates a vicious cycle of hurtful words—a cycle that can continue for years. Some even thrive on the drama, getting caught up in the endless back-and-forth of “he said, she said.”

But the just take a different approach. They refuse to be drawn into foolish disputes and wait patiently on the Lord. Through God’s wisdom and guidance, they are delivered from deception and protected from the destruction that comes from hypocritical words.

Reflective Questions:

•    Have I been tempted to respond to gossip with more gossip?
    •    How can I guard my words to reflect integrity and truth?
    •    In what ways can I rely on God’s wisdom to navigate challenging conversations?

Prayer:

Lord, grant me discernment to see through deception and the strength to rise above hurtful words. Help me to trust in Your deliverance and to walk in integrity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
