Breaking Free from Fear: Trusting God’s Promises – Steps Towards Eternity Daily Devotional

“Stepping Out of Fear and Into Faith: Trusting God’s Light in the Darkness”

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
Proverbs 29:25 (KJV)

When I read this verse, I think about Job and his haunting words: “The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me.” (Job 3:25) Fear is not from God, yet at some point in our lives, it will challenge us. It seeks to overpower us, to control our thoughts, and ultimately to trap us.

Fear can come in many forms—worrying about loved ones, stressing over finances, or battling concerns about health. The more we dwell on these fears, the harder they are to stop. And that is fear’s purpose—to overwhelm us until it becomes a snare.

A snare is a trapping device—and fear works the same way. It traps your thoughts, narrows your focus, and infiltrates every area of your life.

How often have you spent days worrying about something, only to later realize it wasn’t as bad as you imagined? That’s the power fear holds when you let it take control. It torments the mind, keeps you unsettled, and distorts reality.

But God’s Word tells us the antidote to fear:

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
1 John 4:18 (KJV)

Did you catch that? Fear brings torment—mental and emotional suffering. It can creep into your life unexpectedly, waking you up at 3 AM, filling your mind with worries that weren’t even there before.

The only way to combat fear is with the Word of God. The Scriptures aren’t just for reading—they are meant to be used.

One of the best verses to memorize for when fear strikes is:

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

When fear comes, declare this verse out loud:

“Lord, I know Your Word is true, and I believe it with all my heart. I rebuke this fear and stand on Your promises. You are my rock and my defense!”

God’s Word is not just ink on a page—it is His promise to you. Use it. Stand on it. Fear has no power where faith resides.

Reflect & Apply

•    What is one fear that has been weighing on your heart lately?
    •    How has fear affected your thoughts and emotions in the past?
    •    What steps can you take to replace fear with faith when it arises?
    •    Memorize Isaiah 41:10—how can this verse help you in moments of fear?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your promises of peace and protection. I confess that fear has tried to take hold of my heart, but I choose to trust in You. Fill me with Your perfect love that casts out all fear. Strengthen me to stand on Your Word, knowing that You are my refuge and my fortress. I surrender my worries to You, Lord, and I receive Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank you for reading. God bless you!
