How Proverbs 28:1 Teaches Us to Walk in Boldness and Authority as God’s Children
The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
– Proverbs 28:1 (KJV)
If you’ve ever watched a documentary on lions, you may have noticed that where there are lions, hyenas are never far behind. They linger on the outskirts of the lion’s territory, always watching, always scheming. Occasionally, they dart across the lion’s domain, fully aware of his presence. Yet the lion doesn’t waste his energy chasing them down or seeking to provoke them—he simply tends to his own business.
But if, for even a second, the hyenas sense that the lion is coming, they flee in terror. Most of the time, all he has to do is look in their direction or let out a roar, and they scatter. When confronted, the lion doesn’t cower—he stands firm, handling his business with authority. He rarely needs to fight to prove his dominance; his presence alone commands respect.
In the same way, the righteous—God’s children—stand bold in the face of opposition. There is no wicked force, whether in the spiritual realm or through actions in the flesh, that does not recognize and fear the power of God’s people. The enemy may try to test us, but we are not easily shaken. Just as the lion does not bow to hyenas, the righteous do not bow to fear.
Reflective Questions
• What areas of your life require boldness today?
• Are there situations where you have allowed fear to dictate your actions instead of faith?
• How does knowing that God is with you change the way you approach challenges?
• Are you standing firm in your spiritual authority, or do you find yourself retreating when faced with opposition?
• How can you encourage others to walk in boldness through your own example?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for making me bold as a lion. Help me to walk in the authority You have given me, never fearing the enemy but standing firm in faith. When trials arise, remind me that You have already given me victory. Strengthen my heart so that I do not waver but stand confidently in Your promises. Let me be a light to those around me, encouraging them to trust in You. Fill me with wisdom, peace, and the boldness to overcome every challenge. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
