A Heart Set on Eternity – Steps Towards Eternity Daily Devotional

Shifting Our Focus from the Temporary to the Eternal

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

— Colossians 3:2 (KJV)

The world constantly pulls at our attention—temporary pleasures, material success, and the struggles of daily life can easily consume our thoughts. But Scripture reminds us to lift our eyes beyond the fleeting concerns of this world and focus on the eternal. One day, we will stand before the Lord in a place where death, pain, and sorrow no longer exist. Every tear will be wiped away, and sin will be abolished forever.

When we fix our hearts on heaven, our priorities shift. We begin to seek God’s will over personal gain, invest in things of eternal value, and live with the assurance that our struggles are momentary compared to the glory that awaits. Instead of clinging to the temporary, we anchor our hope in what is lasting—our heavenly home, where true joy and peace are found in the presence of our Savior.

May we daily choose to turn our hearts toward the things above, walking in faith, seeking His kingdom, and remembering that our true home is with Christ for all eternity.

Reflective Questions:

 1.   What earthly distractions often pull your focus away from eternal things?
    2.  How can you actively set your heart on things above in your daily life?
    3.   Are there areas where you need to let go of worldly attachments to seek God more fully?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help me to set my heart on what truly matters. In a world full of distractions, remind me to fix my eyes on You and the eternal promises You have given. Strengthen my faith, guide my desires, and help me live each day with heaven in mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remember: Don’t let the devil hijack your thoughts. Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.
