The world says, “The truth hurts.”
But that only tells part of the story.
Sometimes truth does hurt. It can expose what we wanted hidden. It can force us to admit we were wrong. It can bring conviction when we would rather make excuses.
But truth does not wound us for the purpose of destroying us. Truth brings what is hidden into the light so healing can begin.
Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” — John 8:32
A lie may feel easier for a moment, but every lie creates something else that must be carried. Another story. Another excuse. Another thing to hide.
Truth carries no such burden.
When you’ve done wrong, tell the truth.
When the truth costs you, tell it anyway.
When admitting the truth humbles you, humble yourself.
And when everyone around you chooses deception, keep honesty on your lips.
God does not delight in the person who appears perfect. He delights in those who “deal truly.”
You don’t need a perfect story.
You need an honest one.
The truth may confront you today, but it can free you tomorrow.
