The treasure of your heart determines the fruit you bear.
“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”
—Matthew 12:35 (KJV)
What’s in our hearts reflects who we are. A heart that longs to do good—to walk in truth and love—reflects Christ, and from that heart flows good treasure.
What is treasure?
By definition, treasure is a quantity of precious metals, gems, or other valuable objects—things of great worth. Spiritually, it refers to the priceless fruits of a life surrendered to God: peace, love, patience, kindness, wisdom, and truth.
When we invite Jesus into our hearts and give Him full access, everything begins to change. Pride is devoured. Arrogance is cast out. He purifies us. In that sanctifying work, our minds are renewed, and our actions align with His will. As Scripture promises,
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you…”
—Ezekiel 36:26
Yet human hearts remain flawed apart from Him:
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
—Jeremiah 17:9
God understands the depth of the work needed in our hearts—even when we cannot see it ourselves. As we draw near to Him in repentance and faith, He responds:
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
—James 4:8
There is nothing in our hearts that God cannot fix. When we trust Him to do that work, our greatest priority becomes seeking the Lord—knowing that He will complete the transformation.
Reflective Questions
- Treasure Check: What “treasure” (thought patterns, attitudes, words) are you storing up in your heart today?
- Heart Condition: In what areas have you sensed deceit or pride lurking in your motives?
- Invitation: How will you invite Christ into those hidden corners of your heart this week?
Prayer
In Jesus’ name I come before You, Lord. Search my heart and reveal any hidden pride, deceit, or double‑mindedness. Purify me by Your Spirit and create in me a clean heart. Fill me with Your treasure—peace, love, patience, kindness, wisdom, and truth—so that my life bears good fruit and glorifies You. I trust You to do this work within me. Thank You for drawing near as I draw near to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
