Wounded by Truth, Healed by Love – Steps Toward Eternity Daily Devotional

Real Friends Speak Truth, Even When It Hurts

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
-Proverbs 27:6 (KJV)

Jesus was wounded for our sins. He is the truest friend we could ever have. Without Him, we wouldn’t even know what real friendship looks like. As the old hymn says, “What a Friend we have in Jesus.”

Not only is He our friend, but He places the right people in our lives—and removes the wrong ones—if we’re willing to let Him lead. In this life, we will encounter all kinds of people, but not every kind word is sincere. Sometimes, the enemy says all the right things, but deception hides behind their words.

A true friend will tell you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. You may not like what they say. You may even get upset. But that doesn’t change their love for you.

A faithful friend will remind you that choices have consequences, even when your intentions feel right. It’s not about dragging up the past—it’s about protecting your future.

Reflective Questions:

Have you ever mistaken flattery for friendship? What did you learn from that experience?
Is there someone in your life who speaks truth to you—even when it’s hard to hear?
Are you willing to let Jesus lead your relationships, even if it means letting go of people who aren’t good for your walk with Him?

Prayer:

In Jesus’ name I come before You, Lord,
Thank You for being the truest friend I could ever have. Thank You for loving me enough to correct me and for placing godly friends in my life who speak truth with love. Give me the courage to receive correction and the wisdom to discern sincere friendship from flattery. Help me to walk in truth, guided by the Spirit, and to be a faithful friend to others as You are to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank you for reading. God bless you!

The Holy Spirit will let you know who your true friends are.
