Should Christians Get Mad?

There is a common misconception that Christians should never feel angry. Some even say that anger is a sin. However, it’s important to remember that being a Christian does not mean we are immune to emotions like anger. It’s how we handle and express that anger that matters. We should strive to follow Jesus and forgive and love those who have wronged us.

But Jesus Got Mad!

Yes, Jesus got angry in the Bible on a few different occasions. One notable instance was when he overturned the tables of the money changers in the temple, calling them out for turning a place of worship into a marketplace. Another time, he expressed frustration with his disciples for their lack of faith and understanding. Despite these moments of anger, Jesus was known for his compassion and forgiveness towards others.

What about when people try to make you angry?

Unfortunately, some individuals tend to upset others intentionally. However, it’s important to remember that their behavior reflects themselves, not you. It’s best not to let their actions affect your emotions.

Some people’s life mission is to try to inject #bitterness into your life. It’s up to you if you allow it or not.

Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.

Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)

What about people who mistreat you?

The Bible teaches us to forgive those who mistreat us. In Matthew 5:44, Jesus says, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” It can be difficult to show love to those who have hurt us, but it is important to remember that forgiveness is a powerful tool for healing and moving forward. Additionally, Romans 12:19 reminds us that vengeance is not ours to take but belongs to God. We should trust in Him to ultimately bring justice and instead focus on treating others with kindness and compassion, even in the face of mistreatment.

Choose your company

The Bible teaches us to be wise and discerning when it comes to choosing our company. In 1 Corinthians 15:33, it says, “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.'” This means that we should avoid spending time with people who negatively influence us and can lead us away from God. Proverbs 13:20 also advises us to “walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Therefore, we should surround ourselves with people who share our values and encourage us to grow in our faith. This doesn’t mean we should completely cut off relationships with those who don’t share our beliefs, but we should be mindful of their influence on us and seek to protect our hearts and minds.

Biblical References to Anger

The Bible has many teachings about anger. One of the most well-known verses is found in Ephesians 4:26, which says, “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. This verse teaches that it is okay to feel angry, but we must be careful not to sin in our anger. Other verses, such as Proverbs 29:11, warn against being quick to anger and advise us to be slow to anger (James 1:19-20). Ultimately, the Bible teaches us to control our anger and not let it control us.
